Warmer Temperatures Return Sunday and Early Next Week

Winter weather is with us through tonight, as temperatures remain quite cool. The good news? Some early spring-like weather is just around the corner, as temperatures will moderate and warm quite a bit on Sunday.

Mid-level height rises and deep southwest flow on Sunday, will help temperatures rise into at least middle to upper 50s with plenty of sunshine. It’s not out the question that some locations, particularly over Central New Jersey, will reach 60 degrees tomorrow afternoon. The southwest winds off the ocean or sound could keep temperatures cooler for parts of Long Island and Connecticut.

A storm system will be tracking eastward over Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River Valley. Most of the forcing and moisture with this will be well north of region. However, there is a slight chance for a few showers on Monday, with passage of the system’s cold front. Winds will turn from southwest to northwest and mid-level temperatures will fall during the day. But deep mixing will still allow temperatures to remain above normal.

Another storm system track north the Great Lakes will cause the front boundary to shift back north of region late Monday night. This will cause a southwest flow will to return again on Tuesday. Temperatures will likely get into middle 50s with large high pressure to south keeping mostly sunny skies.

A storm system developing over Central Plains on Tuesday will head our direction late Tuesday night or Wednesday. A period of rain or some showers are likely with this system. There are some model differences and variances between model runs on the track and intensity of this system. So the details with this system may be fined tuned over next few days.
