Tuesday Overview: Warm, Dry Conditions Lead to Brush Fire Danger
After a taste of early summer yesterday–with temperatures in the lower 80s in parts of the area–somewhat cooler temperatures are in store for today. A cold front has passed through much region with some clouds, early this morning. Partly sunny skies are anticipated for the rest of day with somewhat cooler airmass behind the front. However, northwest downsloping winds behind the cold are already causing temperatures to rise into upper 60s and lower 70s over the region. These warm temperatures will continue this afternoon, perhaps rising into the middle 70s is some spots.
Mostly clear skies will tonight with low temperatures in the lower to middle 40s. Then with high pressure in control, Wednesday will be cooler with seasonable temperatures in lower to middle 60s during the afternoon. However, high pressure moving off the Southeast US coast on Thursday will cause a return southwesterly flow on Thursday. Temperatures will rise back above average in the upper 60s to lower 70s, at least.
- Very warm and dry conditions since the weekend, have lead to an elevated risk for brush or wildfires. In addition, very low relative humidity values and northwest winds possibly gusting to 25mph today have heightened the fire danger today. Therefore the National Weather Service has issued Red Flag Warnings for today. Take precautions and be on alert around wooded areas today.
- Thursday evening looks dry with just some more clouds for the Yankees vs Athletics game. Then a cold front will move through region with some scattered showers on late Thursday night and Friday. Despite showers, warm conditions are likely to continue. This may result some instability for isolated thunderstorms with heavy downpours on Friday. - A squall line of thunderstorms produced severe flooding over the Houston, Texas metro region, with at least 5 people dead over the past couple days. The cut-off low responsible for this weather, will continue to linger the region over next few days with more heavy rainfall and flooding from thunderstorms possible. Then the cut-off low will open up and weaken as it moves east late week.
