PM All Zones Update: Snow showers, colder weekend ahead

Scattered snow showers are moving through the area this afternoon, in response to a disturbance in the mid and upper level of the atmosphere and favorable lift in the area. These will continue to shift from northwest to southeast today, towards the coast, impacting parts of the region with brief periods of snow. Very light accumulations are possible, but impacts are expected to remain limited.

These snow showers will wane as the evening approaches tonight, especially near and after sunset, with improving conditions expected as the evening goes on. Temperatures will be colder than they were last night, but still warmer than normal for this time of year. This won’t last long — as a strong cold front is approaching the area and will bring a notable change in temperature on Friday.

Snow showers are possible on Sunday as a system passes well to our northwest.

This front moves through the area on Friday with some clouds, isolated snow showers, and noticeably blustery winds. Temperatures will fall quite a bit by the end of the day, with heights in the mid and upper levels of the atmosphere dropping fairly significantly as well. Ideal radiational cooling conditions on Friday Night will lead to temperatures that will be quite cold, especially in the suburbs.

A cooler, transitional and progressive weather pattern will take over this weekend. Multiple disturbances in the atmosphere will pass to our north and west, with low pressure systems tracking through Southeast Canada. The most notable one will be on Sunday evening, but moisture with the system will remain limited.

Still, a few snow showers are possible as the system passes by. A more significant storm system looks likely to affect the area during the middle part of next week — but large uncertainty still exists in regards to the systems track and potential precipitation types. Stay tuned for further information in the next few days!
