Zones 3,7,8 Update on Interior Freezing Rain Threat This Morning

Some freezing rain is possible over the inland areas this morning. This is ahead of an approaching warm front from the the south. Warmer air has already intruded aloft. But surface temperatures are in the upper 20s to lower 30s over many of the higher elevations, over Northwest NJ, Lower Hudson Valley and Connecticut. The National Weather Service has issued freezing rain and winter advisories for these areas this morning. Lower dewpoints, may also allow for temperatures currently in middle 30s, a little further south and east, to drop to near freezing briefly, as rain begins this morning.

Any freezing rain should mostly on light to moderate side this morning. So no significant ice accumulations are anticipated. But a light glazing of ice is possible, in some areas, especially over northernmost areas. Further south and closer to the coast, temperatures have warmed enough for just plain rain through the day today. So take some more precaution going out early this morning, with any travel over inland areas, as some slippery spots on possible on some roads and sidewalks.

Surface wet-bulb as 6am, support temperatures to near or below freezing over Northwest NJ and Lower Hudson Valley and Connecticut with any rain fall, this morning.

Surface wet-bulb as 6am, support temperatures to near or below freezing over Northwest NJ and Lower Hudson Valley and inland Connecticut with any rain fall, until at least mid-morning.

Temperatures will slowly rise above freezing later this morning and early afternoon. So any icy conditions should begin to diminish with rain tapering off to showers during afternoon and evening hours, as better lift and moisture shifts north of the region. Temperatures will continue rising into the 40s late this afternoon and evening, with the warm moving northward through the region.

More scattered showers can’t be ruled overnight and tomorrow morning, as temperatures continue to rise into the 50s. Then more clearing is possible during the afternoon, as cold front moves through. But a wave developing along this cold, will likely bring some snow late tomorrow night into Thursday, as it turns much colder. More details in another update for all zones this morning!
