5/3 AM Zones Update: Chilly and Breezy on Wednesday; Heavy Rain on Friday

Good morning, everyone! We had a beautiful day on Tuesday with mostly sunny skies and highs in the 70s, though it got pretty windy in the afternoon. Unfortunately, we will not be seeing 70s again anytime soon as a large blocking pattern has developed near Greenland, which will generally help for deep troughs to form in the means in the Northeast. Temperatures were pretty mild during most of the overnight ahead of a second cold front that will be pushing through the region this morning. Considering we just had a cold front that came through on Monday night that dried us out, and the fact that this second cold front is all northern-stream driven and thus has little moisture return will mean that this cold front will be a dry frontal passage.

AM Zones Update: Unsettled, Chilly Weather Today, Warming Trend Begins Sunday

Happy Friday! After the drenching downpours yesterday, more unsettled weather is in store today. Saturday Overview: Chilly Weather Today…Milder on Sunday

A colder airmass settled over the region, as expected overnight and this morning. But this airmass will be already on it way out this afternoon, as the pattern remains quite progressive. After quite a cold start with most of the area dropping into the 30s and some upper 20s, temperatures will rise into the upper 40s or lower 50s with plenty of sunshine this afternoon. Which is still chilly and somewhat below normal for November 12th. Strong and large high pressure centered over Ohio Valley will keep skies free today of much cloud cover through tonight.

Mostly clear skies and light winds will lead to more radiational cooling tonight. Especially for the suburbs, where lows will bottom upper 20s to middle 30s. Closer to NYC and urban areas lows will be upper 30s to lower 40s. On Sunday, more southwest winds with high pressure shifting south of the region, will support warmer high temperatures in upper 50s to lower 60s during the afternoon. More sunshine and dry weather will dominate throughout the day.  It should feel more pleasant than today! Some more highlights for early next week:

Forecast: Another stretch of awesome weather

There hasn’t been much to complain about lately, at least when it comes to the weather. In the last week, we have been fortunate enough to settle into a very pleasant pattern. Last week itself featured 5 straight pleasant days featuring low humidity and plenty of sun. After a brief return to humidity and a cold front with showers on Saturday into Sunday, the comfortable weather has returned again. In fact, this airmass is a bit more chilly — if you haven’t already noticed this morning. Temperatures fell into the 30’s in the interior this morning, and the upper 40’s even in the urban areas. The low of 47 was the coldest so far this season in New York City.
