Some Snow Likely in the Northeast Tuesday & Wednesday

Good morning! Very cold temperatures are again starting this week. A mixture of sunshine and clouds are expected for today. Highs will be in the mid-upper 20s. Cold and dry conditions will continue into tonight. But clouds will be increasing, as the next storm system approaches the Northeast. Temperatures will near steady for most of the night.

A large positively-tilted trough will begin moving into the Eastern US on Tuesday. A clipper low associated with northern stream shortwave energy along this trough will drag a cold front into the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region tomorrow. Moisture will be initially limited with this system overall. But some bands of light snow will be developing, over the Interior areas morning and midday hours. Then these bands will be moving into the coastal areas during mid-late afternoon or early evening hours.

AM All Zones Update: High Winds Today, More Tranquil Weather Tuesday

Today will have a mixture of sunshine and clouds, with temperatures remaining mostly in the 30s. But a storm that brought a wintry mix to parts of the region on Sunday, is currently intensifying rapidly east of New England. A tight pressure gradient behind this low has caused winds to gust between 40mph to 50mph already, in some locations early this morning.  Strong northwest winds will likely continue through at least early this afternoon, instability and mixing increases. These winds continue to be sustained between 20 to 30 mph with frequent wind gusts between 40mph to 50mph, through early this afternoon.

Premium Weekly Outlook: Heavy Rainfall Likely Tuesday and Wednesday

The region has under moderate to severe drought conditions for over past several weeks. But a expansive, complex storm system centered over middle of part of the county, will impact the region Tuesday through Wednesday night, with more widespread, heavy rains likely. A closed upper-level low embedded within larger tough will be moving from the Upper Midwest to Great Lakes. This will cause a mid-level ridge to build over the Eastern US with a mild, moist southerly flow. A couple disturbances with a frontal boundaries will be rotating around the closed upper-level low and trough, causing two rounds of significant rainfall over the region.

Tuesday Overview: Nice Today, Showers/T-storms Possible by Wednesday night

Today is shaping up to be beautiful day with plenty of sunshine for most of the region. Temperatures this afternoon will warm into the middle 80s with humidity remaining comfortable. Some sea-breezes later this afternoon may keep areas near the shore a little cooler. Tonight, humidity will start to increase with light winds becoming more southeasterly. Clouds will also increase later tonight, which will keep temperatures from dropping as much as last night.

More southwest flow tomorrow, will cause humidity to increase. More clouds will be likely be around tomorrow, with a cold front and upper-level trough approaching from the west. If there is still enough sunshine, temperatures will likely reach the upper 80s to around 90, away from the shore.  Some isolated or widely scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible during the afternoon or evening. But are more likely later tomorrow night and into Thursday morning, with more tropical moisture coming northward along the front. Some heavy downpours are possible. Clearing will begin taking later Thursday afternoon as front moves east of region. Some other highlights for next several days.
