Warmer, but unsettled weather through the weekend

We’ll start off by saying this: Saturday will be the winner of the weekend, with highs in the 70’s even near the coast. The rest of the weekend, however, will remain unsettled. Multiple mid level disturbances crossing from the Central to Eastern United States, and the return of increased moisture, will lead to the chance of showers and rain both on Friday and Sunday afternoons. This leads to an uncertain temperature forecast, but increasing likelihood of unsettled weather both days will certainly hamper the weekend weather a bit.

Wednesday and Thursday, first, look to be exceedingly pleasant. Highs on both days will reach into the middle 60’s with generally light winds, and plenty of sunshine. If you’re headed to Madison Square Garden on Thursday afternoon and evening for the Rangers/Penguins Game 1 (we’re big Rangers fans here), the weather should be perfect. You might even be able to grab dinner outside or on a local rooftop restaurant before the puck drops at 7pm.

After high pressure gives way to a weak disturbance on Friday, which will bring increased clouds and chance of showers at times during the day, re-established high pressure will briefly take over on Saturday. West/northwest winds and warmer temperatures aloft will allow for highs to reach into the 60’s and 70’s during the afternoon hours on Saturday.

Rainy, unsettled weekend expected

Although the pattern we have settled into may not necessarily be a “cold” one, it certainly is active. And after a Nor’Easter not much more than a week ago, we’ll deal with another low pressure system this weekend after making our way through a few weaker ones over the past 7 days as well. The low pressure system over the next few days will feature warmer air, southeasterly winds with marine influence, and plenty of rain — all of which will come on Friday and Saturday, much to the despair of those who were ready to head out on the town at the end of this work week. Not that some rain should stop you, really.

Initially, warmer air and partly cloudy skies will rule the day on Thursday. That general theme may even remain in control on Friday morning. But during the mid morning hours, winds will flip to southeasterly drawing in more moist ocean air. Low clouds will increase, winds will become a bit more blustery, and drizzle will work its way into the area. This damp, drizzly and showery weather will continue on and off during the day on Friday. Temperatures, meanwhile, will rise into the upper 40’s throughout the area. Steadier precipitation will likely begin to approach the area later in the afternoon on Friday.

Unsettled autumn weather this weekend

It has been a busy week.Strong thunderstorms which produced damaging winds in New England, a blood red moon and lunar eclipse, and noticeable temperature swings have all made news over the past several days But, finally,some tranquil weather settled into the area on Wednesday and Thursday when highs reached the 70’s and sun was plentiful. The weekend, unfortunately, won’t follow the same path. An approaching disturbance is likely to bring unsettled weather to the area from later tonight through Saturday.

High clouds from the associated system have already filtered into the area this afternoon, in response to the first disturbance moving through the Ohio Valley. This lead disturbance will bring continued cloudiness, as well as a chance of showers to the Mid-Atlantic and southern portions of our area…including Southern New Jersey. This lead disturbance will remain relatively weak and slide offshore, so we aren’t expecting a washout by any means on Friday.

Morning roundup: Unsettled, coastal storm slips by

Temperatures in the 50’s and 60’s made this Tuesday morning feel extra Autumn-like, despite easterly winds and an onshore flow. Clouds were more prevalent over southern/eastern areas of New Jersey and Long Island. The marine air will continue pushing westward today, and the gusty winds and higher surf will return to the area shores once again. The clouds and showers won’t necessarily be widespread, but they’ll certainly put a bit of a damper on the day.

A developing coastal storm, owing to a mid level disturbance passing near the East Coast, will bring a period of rain very close to the New Jersey and Long Island coasts on Tuesday morning and afternoon. But westerly winds pressing on the system aloft will keep the precipitation from spreading inland. Instead, breaks in the clouds will be just as common as scattered showers throughout the area — and so while Tuesday won’t be sunny and bright, it won’t necessarily be a washout either.
