Short Term Forecast

Forecast Discussion

A significant winter storm is expected tonight – with heavy snow and widespread travel impacts anticipated across Eastern PA, Northern NJ, New York City and Connecticut – as well as Long Island and parts of Central New Jersey as well. Snow is expected to continue from this evening into the early morning hours on Monday, especially across parts of New Jersey, New York City and Connecticut.

With widespread accumulation expected on all surfaces, the potential for school-related impacts is quite high. We are forecasting a 90% or greater chance of at least a delay across many regions. In addition, cancellations are possible in those very same areas. The percentages are the highest we have forecast so far this year.

However, with snow expected to wrap up during the early morning, the potential exists for delays to be more common, with some extra time for crews to clear roadways. Crews should prepare for an early morning push as precipitation wraps up – and with temperatures warming during the mid morning, road clearing will not be overly difficult.
