NYC Forecast: Warm weather continues, afternoon storms possible
Highlights: Warmer weather is likely to persist for the next few days, with temperatures averaging above normal. A few showers and storms are possible on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Unsettled weather may persist into Thursday as well.
QuickCast
Today: Warm and humid weather will continue with highs in the upper 80’s and lower 90’s. A Heat Advisory remains in effect for Heat Index values over 95 F. Scattered showers and storms could develop by afternoon. These could produce brief periods of heavy rain and gusty winds.
Tonight: Afternoon and early evening storms will taper off and a warm summer evening is expected. Low temperatures will once again only fall into the mid 70’s.

Wednesday (8/12): Warm, humid weather will continue – as will the chance for showers and storms during the afternoon hours. Again, Heat Index values over 95 F are likely and afternoon storms could lead to locally heavy rain and gusty winds.
Thursday (8/8): Conditions trend a bit more unsettled, and the opportunity for more widespread cloud clover and showery activity is expected during the morning. Some improvement is possible during the afternoon but will heavily depend on the timing of a front moving through the area. High temperatures will reach the middle 80s.
Extended Forecast Discussion
The overall theme of the weather pattern throughout the area will continue to be warmer than normal over the next few weeks. Forecast models are in good agreement on temperatures averaging at least 5 F above normal in NYC through the last week of August. This means several days with high temperatures in the upper 80’s.
The opportunity for afternoon showers and storms will present itself every few days as well. Most guidance suggests the pattern will average slightly wetter than normal. As is always the case with these late-summer afternoon storms, coverage will be scattered in nature.
Eyes are on the tropics as we move closer to the end of August, with most atmospheric signals suggesting an active period is on the way in the Atlantic. Conditions remain quiet for now.
