NYC Forecast: Gorgeous weekend, unsettled signals loom next week

We’re back, baby! We’re so excited to re-introduce our weather blog today. It has been a great summer of building our community and we are preparing for a busy Autumn and Winter ahead. These blogs will return on a regular basis, providing slightly longer-form NYC weather content that is easily digestible and understandable. We’ll also be announcing some other very cool news today which will offer some ways to support our content while also receiving some super cool stuff.

Let’s get down to business, shall we? Today is the fifth day in a row that we’ve given a 10/10 rating – and the seventh out of the last eight. September saw 11 days with a perfect 10/10 weather rating and October is off to a hot start as well.

Saturday and Sunday

The weekend looks absolutely splendid, and is likely to offer another two high scoring weather days. We’re expecting highs in the mid to upper 70’s on both days, with plenty of sunshine.

The one exception will be an increase in moisture on Sunday. Model guidance suggests that dew points will rise into the 50’s and eventually lower/middle 60’s by Sunday afternoon. In other words, the airmass will start to feel much more humid as the moisture content in the atmosphere will increase. Regardless, we expect Sunday to remain dry.

Early next week

The weather pattern becomes much more complicated and unsettled early next week. A storm system moving through Southeast Canada will lead to showers developing very late Sunday Night into Monday morning, with unsettled and humid conditions likely. Showery activity will continue into Tuesday.

At that point, ensembles are suggesting that an upper level low could drop southward from Canada and linger off the East Coast through the middle of next week. If this were to occur, easterly flow off the Atlantic Ocean and plentiful moisture would lead to a prolonged period of unsettled, cool and damp weather – perhaps persisting throughout the entire week. Not great!

European Ensemble suggesting widespread above normal precipitation in the NYC Metro early next week.

Ensemble agreement is quite strong on unsettled, wet weather for this range. The European Ensemble, for example, is suggesting the potential for 1-2″ of rain through the end of next week, with anomalous precipitation departures from normal.

At this juncture, confidence is rising in an extended period of unsettled weather starting Monday. In other words, enjoy the next few days and prepare the sweaters and movies for next week.

That’s all for this morning. Have a great Friday!
