Cool, Calm Weather to Continue in NYC for the Next Several Days

Colder than normal weather has settled in to the NYC Area today, and will remain in place for the rest of this week. Another cold night is on the way tonight, with low temperatures falling into the upper 30’s and lower 40’s. Conditions will gradually warm up as we move into the weekend, with no major precipitation events on the horizon.

Forecast low temperatures from tonight through Thursday morning.

Tonight will be another cold one, with temperatures falling into the upper 30’s and lower 40’s in the city. The growing season officially ended last night in much of the interior, where temperatures fell below 32 F. It will end tonight in the immediate suburbs of NYC. The city, as per usual, will remain a bit warmer. We expect the growing season to end there sometime over the next week. The average first freeze in NYC is during Novembers third week.

The cold weather can be blamed on a deep trough, which is situated over the Eastern United States this week. The airmass overhead comes straight from our friends in Canada (thanks, y’all). The next few days will feature temperatures several degrees below normal as a result.

This airmass will eventually begin to modify to the environment around it. As you may be aware, we don’t live in the Arctic – so the air will gradually warm as it sits overhead. We’ll see temperatures begin to rebound a bit as we move into the latter part of the week and weekend, back towards more comfortable levels.

We also expect conditions to remain quite dry. In fact, most guidance suggests that conditions will remain notably drier than normal over the next several days, with the next threat of precipitation not until the middle part of next week.
