Unsettled late week, MDW weather uncertain

Hello, friends! Today’s weather rating is an 8/10. East winds and partly cloudy skies are dominating the forecast, with temperatures expected to top out in the upper 60’s. Clouds this morning will give way to nicer conditions later. The warmth and humidity of the past few days has been wiped out by a cold front, but the easterly winds are a bit of a sign of an impending storm system (hooray). Conditions will remain pleasant through tonight.

Despite the cooler than normal weather, the next 48 hours will actually be quite nice. Partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected on both Wednesday and Thursday, with highs in the middle to upper 60’s. Later on Thursday night, clouds will increase ahead of an approaching upper level storm system.

Periods of showers are anticipated from Thursday into Friday as the frontal system nears. Temperatures will warm up quite a bit, with highs on Friday reaching into the upper 70’s despite showers and clouds. A few thunderstorms are also possible as the front passes by. Blustery winds are also anticipated.

The front is forecast to clear the area late Friday and early Saturday morning, with the storm system passing off to our east and conditions improving for Memorial Day Weekend. Some forecast models have hinted at the possibility that the upper level low could meander nearby. This would lead to a comedy of events that would culminate in a dreary, wet weekend – but is not the favored solution at this time. Instead, we expect the front to pass and conditions to clear out. However, we must keep a very close eye on it.

The result should be a ridiculously pleasant holiday weekend. Most guidance suggests temperatures will trend above normal, with highs ranging from the upper 70’s to low 80’s, and very little risk of precipitation at least from Saturday through Monday. The typical caveats apply – warmer inland, cooler near the shores. Again, this forecast hangs in the balance of the late week storm system which we will have to watch closely.

We’ll have a more detailed forecast for the holiday weekend as we head through the week and the evolution becomes more clear. Talk to you soon!
