Friday Briefing: Beautiful Labor Day weekend in NYC, Dorian strengthens

Beautiful weather is expected throughout Labor Day weekend in New York City, with temperatures in the 80’s and plenty of sunshine. High pressure will remain in control through Sunday, with very little chance of rain. The next storm system will arrive on Monday, with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Dorian continues to churn toward the Bahamas and Florida. The storm strengthened again overnight, and the National Hurricane Center says maximum sustained winds are now 105 miles per hour.

The storm is expected to continue moving northwestward before curving to the west this weekend. At that point, model guidance diverges considerably in regards to Dorian’s track – with some guidance taking the storm into Florida, and others leaving it meandering in the Bahamas into early next week. Regardless, residents of Southeast Florida are well into their preparation stages for a major hurricane as the National Hurricane Center says the storm will strengthen to a Category Four storm with 140mph winds before making landfall.

Programming note: We will have another full update regarding Dorian this morning.
