NWS Confirms EF-2 Tornado in Delaware County, PA

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, PA confirmed today that an EF-2 tornado touched down in Delaware County, PA last night. More specifically, they note that the tornado touched down in the Glens Mills, PA area.

In a statement this morning, the National Weather Service said:

"The National Weather Service office in Mount Holly NJ is currently conducting a storm survey for the area near Glen Mills in Delaware County Pennsylvania. The survey team has confirmed that an EF2 tornado touched down the evening of October 31, 2019. Further details will be released in a report later today."

Showers and thunderstorms moved through the Northeast states yesterday, producing widespread wind damage. Over 400 reports of damaging wind had been received by the Storm Prediction Center as of Friday morning, with more likely to come.

Earlier in the day, the Storm Prediction Center issued an “Enhanced Risk” for severe thunderstorms throughout the Mid Atlantic states, specifically mentioning the risk for widespread damaging winds and tornadoes. A severe thunderstorm watch was issued a few hours prior to the tornado touching down.

As the line of storms moved through Pennsylvania and towards New Jersey, areas of rotation developed. Radar indicated strong rotation with lofted debris as the storm moved through Glens Mills and south of Radnor, PA. A tornado warning was issued as the rotation strengthened.

Residents in the area report notable damage to structures. Local emergency scanners last night revealed several cases of structure damage, power outages, and some collapses.

More information regarding the tornado will become available this afternoon when the National Weather Service releases their full statement.
