Fall foliage is undoubtedly one of natures greatest displays. Each Autumn, the landscape is flooded with gorgeous color as trees prepare themselves for winter. In the Northeast states, the colors are a spectacle that is unanimously appreciated and respected. Hundreds of thousands of visitors flock to view the bursting colors in New England each year, and 2019 will be no different.

Dorian set to pass east of NYC, some beaches closed through Saturday

Hurricane Dorian, good for nothing other than a beautiful sunset in the Northeast and some viral marketing for Sharpie markers, is finally set to meet her demise. The hurricane which has brought tragedy to the Bahamas and is still ravaging parts of South and North Carolina, will begin to interact with a frontal system on Friday and Saturday.

Dorian passes offshore, improving weather this weekend in NYC

In New York City, the impacts from Dorian are expected to remain relatively minor. Cirrus clouds from the storm system have made their way overhead today – the first time we’ve seen any part of Dorian up close and personal. Luckily, the remainder of the system is expected to stay a safe distance away.

Hurricane Dorian strengthened again today, with maximum sustained winds now at 110 miles per hour. The storm will approach the Carolina coastline over the next 24 hours. Widespread hazardous weather is expected there, with strong wind gusts, torrential rain and dangerous storm surge likely. Some additional strengthening of Dorian is possible from this evening into Thursday morning, as the storm traverses the warm waters of the Gulf Stream.
