NWS Confirms EF-1 Tornado in Mount Laurel on Thursday
The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down in Mount Laurel, NJ shortly after 7:00pm on Thursday. This marks the second tornado in just five days, after an EF-0 tornado touched down in the same area on July 6th. Thursday’s tornado was stronger, with maximum wind speeds of 90 miles per hour.
Tornado Warning was issued ahead of the storm
The NWS issued a Tornado Warning for Mount Laurel (including the area surrounding Mount Holly) on Thursday evening. Radar data showed a circulation embedded within an area of heavy rain and thunderstorms. Shortly after the storm, damage reports suggested that strong winds had occurred.

Velocity data showed a clear circulation and rotation at the time of the damage reports (highlighted above). The NWS sent a group of meteorologists out this morning to investigate, and they confirmed their findings earlier this afternoon.
Coincidentally, this was the second tornado to occur within five days in Mount Laurel. In fact, the two tornadoes occurred within just 0.8 miles of each other.
