Live Blog: Dorian nearing Carolinas with rain, wind, surge and tornadoes

Hurricane Dorian strengthened again last night, with maximum sustained winds now at 115 miles per hour. The storm is now a Category 3 Major Hurricane again. Widespread hazardous weather is expected in the Carolinas today with strong wind gusts, torrential rain and dangerous storm surge likely. Tornadoes are also expected as rain bands crash ashore.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch for NJ, NYC until 9:00pm

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the NYC Metro and surrounding areas of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut until 9:00pm. Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon. In the presence of ample instability and wind shear, storms will be capable of organizing quickly.

Strong storms possible today, Dorian heads towards Southeast US Coast

The Storm Prediction Center has placed the NYC Metro Area in a Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms this afternoon. The main threats with any storms are expected to be strong wind gusts and heavy rain, but a few isolated tornadoes and small hail can’t be ruled out either.
