A large coastal storm has formed this week, and will continue to meander offshore for the next few days. Moderate to heavy rainfall fell across parts of the Mid Atlantic and New England Coast today as bands from the system moved westward. North/northeast winds have kept temperatures very cool.
An expansive coastal storm is forecast to develop off the Eastern Seaboard this week, and recent trends suggest rain and wind from the system may reach the coastal plain. The storm is expected to form on Tuesday as an area of low pressure off the Mid-Atlantic coast. It will eventually move northward into the Atlantic Ocean.
Forecast models are in good agreement that the system will develop during the early to middle part of the week, perhaps taking on subtropical characteristics a few hundred miles off the East Coast.
The fall foliage display is becoming increasingly noticeable throughout New England, and peak colors are expected within the next 7 to 10 days. While the outburst of beautiful color is on schedule historically, it’s moving along at a much faster pace than it did in 2018.
