Mid level disturbance leads to epic cloud display in NYC

These NYC clouds weren’t as menacing as they look — we promise. The showers which moved through the area this morning, as a result of a mid level disturbance shifting overhead, created some incredible displays in the New York City area. The surrounding cloud deck made the multiple cloud types even more impressive. Instagram and Twitter users took to their cameras to share some amazing photo’s today — and we’ve compiled some of them below. Chances for showers and an isolated storm will continue today, and a weak coastal storm may bring a period of moderate rain to Long Island and Connecticut tonight into Wednesday.

PM Update: Pleasant evening, plus other links

As we discussed earlier this morning, today was a much more pleasant and less-humid day when compared with the few before it. Highs in the lower 80’s felt comfortable with lower dew points and resultant humidity values. Tonight will feature much of the same. Fair-weather clouds from throughout the day will fade and mostly clear conditions are expected. Lows will fall into the mid 60’s away from the city, but may remain a bit warmer than that in urban areas.

Tomorrow looks warmer, with highs in the mid to upper 80’s. But there will likely be a developing seabreeze by afternoon due to onshore winds. There’s a lot of other stuff going on in the world of meteorology. So keep reading:’

Despite offering these subscription packages, the core of what New York Metro Weather offers will remain free — as it always has. Our articles, Forecast Brief and Discussion will remain available to everybody — and our social media accounts will continue to work exactly as they have before. But we’re taking it further. On September 1st, 2014 we will be rolling out the Beta Version of our Forecast Model hub, a central place to access our own in-house weather models. This page will be completely free. We’re looking for your opinion!

There have been a ton of changes at New York Metro Weather in the last two years. We began as a small blog, writing our opinionated articles on the weather in our area. We’ve grown to be a popular and respected weather source in the NYC Metro Area, while maintaining our relationship with clients and readers alike. We’re ready to unveil new forecast products this Fall and Winter to make your life easier and more direct — but first we’re preparing to roll out an entirely new feature which we’ve never offered before.

Beginning in the Fall of 2014, we will start testing a new model system — yes, weather models — which we will host on our website. The images will be produced multiple times daily, with the graphics and variables open for additional tweaking as we approach winter. This presents an interesting opportunity for our readers and subscribers. We’re opening up the first public images of our weather models here today. With them, we want to hear your opinion. We want to hear things we can add, images you want to see, and criticisms on what you see here today.
