2/28 Late AM All Zones Update: Mild Weather Continues, Severe T-Storm Threat Wednesday

Unseasonable mild weather continues today with a strong mid-level ridge over the region. A mixture of clouds and sunshine is expected to with temperatures warming into the upper 50s to lower 60s over much of the region this afternoon. Some parts of Central or Southern NJ may even reach the middle 60s. While some coastal locations might only rise into middle 50s with southerly winds off the water.

2/17 Late AM All Zones Update: Unseasonably Mild Weather This Weekend

High pressure with mid-level ridging builds into the region today. This will support more sunshine, with just some high cirrus passing through at times. After a cold start this morning, temperatures will rise into upper 30s to lower 40s this afternoon. Northwest winds will lighter to today, as a deep low moves further out into the Atlantic. So won’t feel as cold this afternoon, as Thursday afternoon was.

AM Zones Update: More Rain Likely Tonight, Mild on Thursday

More sunshine and dry weather returns today with a frontal system having passed through. Temperatures will remain with highs in the upper 40s to lower 50s. However, some clouds may start increasing again this afternoon, as another low frontal system with low pressure over the Great Lakes moves begins approaching the region.

A warm front with this system will move through region tonight. A strengthening southwesterly low-level will enhance lift and moisture along this frontal boundary. This could to period of steadier rain with briefly moderate to heavy downpours. However, rain will off taper quickly by daybreak tomorrow. So rainfall totals are expected to be mostly under a .50” and not cause any serious flooding issues.

Friday Overview: Mild & Breezy Today, Quick Cold Blast Arrives Tonight

Temperatures this morning are already well into the 50s with west winds. As a strong cold front approaches, today from the northwest, temperatures will likely continue to rise into the lower or middle 60s over much of the region. But winds be increasing out the northwest by this afternoon with the front moving through the region. These winds could gust to between 30 to 40 mph at times. These winds will also help usher in a much colder airmass later tonight. Temperatures will begin falling through 50s and 40s later this afternoon and evening.

Winds will diminish overnight, as a cold airmass settles over the region. Many of the suburbs will get down into the middle 20s to lower 30s by dawn. The National Weather Service has issued Freeze Warnings for the parts of the area where growing season continues. Where a hard freeze and patchy frost is likely with vegetation. In NYC and some other urban areas temperatures are expected to drop into middle 30s with some pockets of frost possible by Saturday morning. Some other highlights for this weekend.
