Tropical Storm Warning for NYC: Isaias to bring heavy rain, strong winds

Tropical Storm Isaias is approaching the coast of the Carolinas this evening and is expected to make landfall as a hurricane tonight. Tropical moisture will surge northward through the Mid Atlantic his evening, setting the stage for a period of torrential rainfall and flooding across the NYC Area on Tuesday.

Comet Neowise visible from NYC this week

Skywatchers and astronomers across the Northern Hemisphere are in for one heck of a treat over the next week. Comet Neowise, a retrograde comet which passed close to the sun on July 3rd, 2020, is the brightest comet visible from earth in the last 23 years.

The comet has brightened by 100 times over the past two weeks, and is expected to continue brightening in the past few days. It is clearly visible in the evening and early morning skies across the Northeast United States, and will remain that way until next week. From that point forward, the comet will begin to fade away – and won’t be seen again for another 6,800 years.

NYC Forecast: Prolonged stretch of pleasant weather expected

Everyone should become familiar with the term “cutoff low” over the next week, as it may become both your friend and foe. A prolonged stretch of pleasant weather is likely in the next few days, through at least Wednesday, as a cutoff low drifts into the Mid Atlantic States. This cutoff low will be responsible for deflecting abnormally warm temperatures northward into Canada, and keeping cool and rainy weather southward in the Carolinas. The NYC Area will be comfortably sandwiched in between.
