3/15 All Zones Noon Update: Snow Showers Today…Wintry Mix Possible Friday Night into Saturday

After the big winter storm and Nor’easter yesterday, that brought 1 to 2 feet of snow to Interior, and more wintry mix to the coast, some what calmer weather returns for few days. Deep surface low pressure will continue to move north into Southeast Canada. Behind it are drier northwesterly winds, which will lead to clouds mixing with sunshine this afternoon withcold and blustery conditions. High temperatures this afternoon will reach into the upper 20s to lower 30s for most of the region.

Public Analysis: Strong Nor’Easter brings a myriad of impacts today

A well discussed and documented Nor’Easter will develop later today from the Mid Atlantic states to the Delmarva coast, bringing heavy precipitation and a myriad of hazardous weather to the area which will continue through Tuesday. The low pressure area, currently located over the Central Mid Atlantic States, will continue shifting northeast today with precipitation, mostly in the form of rain, shifting northward. This afternoon, the situation becomes more complex as the storm moves off the Delmarva coast and begins strengthening.

This developing offshore low pressure will be quite impressive — and will bring various types of hazardous weather to different geographic locations this afternoon and evening. Wintry weather is possible in the interior and higher elevations, heavy rain is likely area-wide, coastal flooding and strong winds are likely near the coast.

1/17 Zones 7 & 8 Update on Ice Threat over Far Northern Interior Areas Today

Low pressure system is currently over the Ohio Valley this morning. As it tracks northeast into the Eastern Great Lakes, it will cause a warm front to approach the region. Areas of light precipitation, have been gradually developing over the region this morning. Warmer air has already moved into the lower and mid-levels of the atmosphere. of So many locations are just seeing rain today.

However, some colder, dry air near the surface and lower levels may be harder to scour out for some higher elevations just north of I-84, and over Northwest CT, This lead some areas patchy light freezing rain that could be mixed some with snow or sleet. No substantial snow accumulations are anticipated. But some slippery travel conditions are possible with a light glaze of ice on roads and sidewalks.

PM All Zones Update: Wintry precipitation slides south

Fair and relatively mild weather remained in place this afternoon throughout the majority of the forecast area. Temperatures in the 40’s were fairly common and a mix of sun and clouds made for a pleasant day. A more complex situation will develop from later tonight into Saturday, however, as a temperature gradient to our southwest shifts towards the East Coast.

Colder air will move into the Northeast tonight and into Saturday morning with a very impressive surface high pressure area shifting over New England. Precipitation along the temperature gradient in the Mid Atlantic states will fall as a wintry mixture — with freezing rain, sleet, and rain all possible by Saturday afternoon.
