Tuesday Briefing: Heat Advisory today, storms likely Wednesday

After several days of calm weather, the pattern is finally set for a change. Temperatures will warm into the mid 90s today, and the NWS has issued a Heat Advisory for NYC and surrounding areas. Heat Index values will rise toward 100 F thanks to increasing moisture. Temperatures will remain warm well into the evening hours.

Monday Briefing: Severe storms, flooding likely tonight

After several days of heat, the weather pattern is finally ready for a change. That will culminate this afternoon and evening, when strong and severe storms develop throughout the area. The Storm Prediction Center has placed our area in a Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) for severe storms through tonight.

These storms will be capable of producing frequent and dangerous lightning, torrential flooding rains, gusty winds and hail. Widespread flooding is likely, with tons of moisture in the atmosphere and a frontal boundary nearby.

Weekend Briefing: Oppressive & Dangerous Heat and Humidity Likely!

An exceptional heat wave will continue to build for the New Jersey and New York City area this weekend! Temperatures are likely to reach the upper 90s on both Saturday and Sunday with some spots possibly breaking the 100°F mark. The heat will be quite oppressive and dangerous when combined with very high levels of humidity. Heat index values could be as high as 115°F in parts of the immediate NYC metro.

Thursday Briefing: Excessive Heat Watch on Friday and Saturday

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for the NYC Metro on Friday and Saturday. The watch also includes New Jersey, Long Island and Connecticut. Dangerous levels of heat are likely during that time. Temperatures will rise into the upper 90’s, and high dew points will lead to Heat Index Values over 105 F.

This level of heat is dangerous for everyone, but especially for sensitive groups. There are several heat safety tips available on our resource page. The most important thing is to stay hydrated, but it is also recommended that you significantly reduce exposure to the sun. Keep a close eye on children, the elderly and pets.
