Storms and gusty winds today, more snow ahead?

I suppose that sometimes you have to throw your hands up and say “fine”. That’s exactly what we’ll be doing this week as we track another potential winter weather event. But lets get to the weather at hand first – it’s stormy, dreary, windy and mild. Showers this morning will give way to cloudy and drizzly conditions during the late morning and early afternoon as a warm front moves northward. Southerly winds will pick up as the warm front moves towards the NYC Area near noontime.

Snow likely Monday morning with quick hitting system

Monday’s Weather Rating | 2/10 (Bad)

Good afternoon and Happy Easter to those who celebrate! For those of you who enjoyed the beautiful Spring weather this weekend, we have some bad news for you. A weak storm system sliding to the south for the region is expected to strengthen a bit from later Sunday into early Monday morning, with the low pressure center passing off the Mid Atlantic coast during the early morning hours of Monday. Impressive lift along a frontal boundary will allow precipitation to expand and become more steady in nature from late Sunday into Monday.

The system comes right on the edge of an unusually cold airmass that is sliding southward into the Northeast States today. It’s timing is impeccable, really – any faster and the airmass would be too warm for any wintry precipitation, and any slower and the colder air would likely press further south and keep the system more suppressed. Instead, the disturbance comes right along the frontal boundary and will provide wintry precipitation the Northern Mid Atlantic again.

Beautiful weather today, potential increasing for snow Monday

Happy Saturday!

Weekend Weather Rating | 7/10

Saturday should start off nice and clear, but chilly across the Northeast as and area of high pressure takes control of our weather. Conditions should gradually warm up throughout the day tomorrow with clear skies and southerly winds developing. This should allow temperatures to warm back up into the lower to middle 50’s across much of the New York metro area, with middle to upper 50’s likely over portions of the Mid Atlantic. Clear and dry conditions look to persist throughout the entirety of the day, so tomorrow will likely be an excellent day to go outside and enjoy the day! High pressure will continue to gradually move offshore tomorrow evening, but will still supply the region with enough warm air from the south to keep temperatures from dropping too low. Lows should be in the upper 30’s to lower 40’s for the area, with middle 40’s likely over portions of southern New Jersey.

NYC Weekend Forecast: Improving weather behind frontal system

Weekend Rating | 7/10 (Actually good for once)

After weeks of fighting through unusually cold weather, warmth has finally arrived this morning. It didn’t do so with a grandiose entrance, however, as dreary and wet conditions accompanied a warm fronts movement northward. This morning, southerly winds are drawing in warmer air which is leading to a spike in temperatures out ahead of a front. This frontal system will move gradually eastward today, into New Jersey and eventually New York City later this afternoon.

With it will come a wind shift – and while temperatures will rebound back into the mid to upper 50’s as a result of diurnal heating (fancy words for the sun will warm things up), the westerly flow will be the first sign of impending colder weather that is lurking back to our west. The news isn’t all bad though – the weekend looks likely to be salvaged, for the most part, with seasonable temperatures and comfortable weather conditions.
